The next meeting of Brockley Parish to be held on Tuesday 19th March 2024 at 700pm
The Parish Council is the first tier of local government for the parish of Brockley. Seven Councillors are elected every four years to represent the interests of their fellow residents of the village. The Council meets on a monthly basis, except August and December, in Brockley Village Hall to discuss the operation and upkeep of Parish Council owned and operated facilities, as well as providing representation on a variety of other local issues.
The Parish Councillors are volunteers and come from various backgrounds. Each year the Council elects a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Responsible Finance Officer to oversee the conduct at meetings. The Council employs a Parish Clerk whose primary role is to advise the Councillors, report on activities, produce minutes of the meetings and deal with correspondence.
The Parish Council for Brockley meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm at Brockley Village Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend and there is always an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions or make comments under the agenda item “Public Forum”.
The agenda for each meeting is published on the notice board outside the Village Hall in Mill Road three working days before the meeting.
Council Funding
The Council is funded in two ways: by income generated from the precept, which is the money collected from village taxpayers as a part of the Council tax bill issued by St Edmundsbury Borough Council and grants received from external sources.
Higher Tiers of Government
Brockley falls within the Cavendish Ward of St Edmundsbury Borough Council, the Clare Division of Suffolk County Council, the South Suffolk Parliamentary Constituency and the Eastern Region for the European Parliament.
